Lions are noted for their worldwide efforts in reducing preventable blindness, a bold step taken by the Lions since that day when Helen Keller challenged the Lions to be “Knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness” .

Since 1990, Lion's SightFirst program has accomplished what few thought possible in controlling and in some places eliminating, the leading causes of unnecessary blindness.

Started with US$143 million raised by the Lions Campaign SightFirst was an extraordinary success. Among the various successes are:

1. Restored sight to 4.6 million with cataract

2. Prevented serious vision loss for 24 million

3. Awarded US$175 million for 724 projects in 88 countries
